Tanzanite is a variety of Zoisite and also a member of the Epidote family. It can be found in prismatic and mass forms.
Tanzanite can only be found in Tanzania, Southwest Africa. It is known to be found in a range of colours, from colourless, yellow, brown and grey and its most well-known colour, blue-purple.
